From the recordings Everything I've Got and I'd Rather Walk
Sometimes I feel like the only guy on the Earth that doesn’t care about cars! Maybe that’s because they just haven’t been reliable for me and keep breaking down. I suppose if you constantly like fixing things, that’s fun?
I also don’t enjoy the stress of driving in heavy traffic or harsh conditions. It often feels like a monsoon in Florida during the summer. I’ve had to drive in feet of snow for work as well, I still have nightmares from it!
Here’s a few examples of my luck with cars:
I’ve been in two accidents where the car was totaled.
Alternator failed when at a stop light right when it turned to green and caused traffic to halt until everyone got out to help push my car off the road
Car overheated and stalled out on the middle of the highway when it was 95 degrees
As soon as I got rid of my beater, the Jeep I inherited from my wife got a nail in the tire and had to replace all the tires
I wrote about a few of these experiences in a song. I present to you “I’d Rather Walk”.
Lyrics
Metal blanket drapes the street
Opened doors no one greets
Not an inch of road to spare
Deep breath of toxic air
Deja vu total jam
Single lane all to cram
Uncertain arrival
A game of survival
No thanks I'd rather walk
I’d rather walk
I'd rather walk now hey ey
I’d rather walk
I'd rather walk now hey ey
I’d rather walk
I'd rather walk now hey ey
I’d rather walk
I'd rather walk now hey ey
I’d rather walk
Biding time at the light
Row of tin no end in sight
Stalled upon red to green
Blasting horns form the scene
Eject to push the sled
Friday night plans now dead
Unanswered calls none came
Two mile walk of shame
No thanks I'd rather walk
I'd rather walk now hey ey
I’d rather walk
I'd rather walk now hey ey
I’d rather walk
I'd rather walk now hey ey
I’d rather walk
I'd rather walk now hey ey
I’d rather walk
I'd rather walk now hey ey
Oh No
I'd rather walk now hey ey
I’d rather walk
I'd rather walk now hey ey
Oh No
I'd rather walk now hey ey
Oh No
Again and again
Again and again
Again and again
Again and again
Blind climb up a hill
Other side in a standstill
Commence to descend the peak
Tires burst with a squeak
Bumper and trunk have crossed
Vehicle at a total loss
Hours stranded in the chill
Towtruck joyride what a thrill
No thanks I'd rather walk
I’d rather walk
I'd rather walk now hey ey
I’d rather walk
I'd rather walk now hey ey
I’d rather walk
I'd rather walk now hey ey
I’d rather walk
I'd rather walk now hey ey
I’d rather walk
I'd rather walk now hey ey
Oh No
I'd rather walk now hey ey
Oh No
I'd rather walk now hey ey
Oh No
I'd rather walk now hey ey
Oh No
