Back in high school, I watched I Love You, Man and thought it was hilarious… but I couldn’t relate at all. I was everywhere: salutatorian in the scholar crowd, on the math team, captain of the football team, four-year varsity baseball player, and just starting to find my music crew. I had so many friend groups that the idea of struggling to meet people seemed impossible.

Fast forward to now… and wow, it’s a different story. I’m holding onto old friends by a thread and finding it almost impossible to make new ones. Everyone’s deep in hustle mode, working nonstop. Back in the day, people made friends at work. Now we’re so burnt out after hours that we just need space from each other.

I don’t have the solution, but I know this: real friendships are worth protecting. Every connection counts. I wrote this song to remind myself, and maybe you, to cherish the ones we’ve got.

Lyrics

It was so easy, when we were young
A grin and a laugh, and the friendship begun
Now the years have flown, set in our ways
Hitting it off, has grown rarer these days

Every handshake is a trial
Passing judgement with a smile

The ice is thicker
Ice is thicker
Ice is thicker now

The ice is thicker
Ice is thicker
Ice is thicker now

Conversations start, shallow at best
We're all overwhelmed, we’re caught up in the stress
We used to kindle over our dreams
We've closen those doors and evade at all means

Every breath is a new test
We leave nothing to a guess

The ice is thicker
Ice is thicker
Ice is thicker now

The ice is thicker
Ice is thicker
Ice is thicker now
Oh Yeah

The ice is thicker
Ice is thicker
Ice is thicker now

The ice is thicker
Ice is thicker
Ice is thicker now

Maybe it’s the fear of rejection
Or the weight of perfection
Deep down inside, we’re reaching out
If we’d just drop all defenses
And let down all the fences
We’d find we’re all the same, beyond the doubt

Maybe it's the words left unspoken
Or the fear of being broken
We build these walls that keep us apart
If we let the the light come on through
And see the true me and you
We'll find a chance to make a new start

The ice is thicker
Ice is thicker
Ice is thicker now

The ice is thicker
Ice is thicker
Ice is thicker now
